Brick Residential

This is a personal project I’ve been meaning to do for a long time. I wanted to primarily learn how to use RailClone, so a brick façade was a no-brainer.
I used ZBrush to create the bricks and distributed them in three different patterns using RailClon. Due to the limitations of RailClone Lite, I could only use 3 segments (or 3 unique bricks) per RailClone object, which was challenging at first, because I didn’t want to see repeating bricks on the building. The workaround was to use transform nodes in RailClone to rotate each segment several times in 90 degree increments. This way I could get 4 unique sides from each brick, and ultimately get 12 unique looking bricks instead of 3. Using procedural and triplanar texturing techniques helped out even further to get a more random, natural look.
I also personally took the backplate photo, which proved to be extremely helpful because I had all the information for the camera matching afterwards.

Tales from the next world

This is the image I made for Fabio Palvelli’s 5th render challenge “the thing” – I’t’s an homage to the extraordinary Vamsi Krishna Vemuri who made the 3D Model of the sculpture along with other amazing works.
I decided to recreate the room of the Temple of Dendur at the MET Museum in New York City in 3D, I’ve been there a couple of years ago and it really struck me with its beauty –
what a better place to have an exhibition of Vamsi’s work? Enjoy 🙂

Cabin Contest – Ander Alencar

I am trying to improve the story telling behind the images I produce, so the approach of this one in particular was to focus the attention on a special moment; the encounter of the characters in this particular scenario and not the cabin itself. I also liked the challenge of making an image with a winter theme in which I would face technical challenges to make some details that would force me to work on some new skills. Even if I was not one hundred percent satisfied with the result, I learned a lot and am working my way towards being a 3D artist.
