RADIANCE by PROJECTiONE

An amazing looking finish for what once was an ordinary fireplace! The element, named Radiance, was inspired by various shelf mushrooms, based on their form, organizational structure, and component geometry. enhanced by lighting and motion sensors the final effect is amazing. This type of project fits into my recent interest in parametric design using tools such as Rhino along with Grasshopper very well… expect more information related to that.

Check out the Radiance project page on PROJECTiONE website for more information and other cool projects.

Sweet… but as an architect the biggest inconvenience I find is how you clean it? its beautiful but hard to clean.

Lynchon to reply to your question about cleaning: An original proposal was for the “mushrooms” to be made of a pliable silicone. We (I’m one of the clients, and also an architect) requested that the material be hard, so as to be cleanable: silicone gets grimy, but the plastic will be able to be dusted with a feather duster, which is what I use on all of our art. The mushrooms are mounted on plexiglas, which will also shed dust easily. It’s a very significant concern and one the Projectione designers addressed forthrightly.
