A new and exciting challenge is about to begin! Tomorrow is back for the 4th time and looking for their next star.

The challenge of Tomorrow entry by Stefan Dimitrov

Hello,

During the past few days I have spent a lot of hours figuring out how to make the transition of the greenery from the ground to the skyscrapers smoothly.
I begun remodeling the basic geometry volumes that was provided for us in the starting pack. I followed some of the following methods during the process. Each skyscraper was remodeled and has gained green surfaces where grass, bushes and small trees are going to be placed. The average depth of the surfaces is around 3-4 metres, with slabs around 1 meter. My research regarding other buildings that are already built in that way showed that this is enough for the greenery. I kept the original silhouette of the skyscrapers, their height and size. By connecting and chamfering the edges I created the elevations with the slabs and the glazing.

The background is completely created in 3D, using several clusters of building assets. I converted the surrounding building into proxies in advance to save memory and to make the process faster during the time.

When I was ready with the geometry of the buildings, the terrain and the surrounding area i begun testing the best appropriate lightning for this aerial view. I will aim to choose the one that is not throwing shadows on the park development infront of the skyscrapers. It is one of the leading elements of this project.

Thank you for taking your time. I hope that soon will be able to post updates on the other two images for the project.

Bests,

Stefan

When I first saw the site for the challenge it struck me how iconic each building was in itself, each one competing for the spotlight. And although this makes for an extraordinary architectural ensemble and a testimony to the progress achieved in construction and design, I knew I didn’t want to focus on the next great thing. I’m sure the future of Hudson Yards will see many more feats of architecture and engineering, but my belief is that the challenge of the next years lies in shifting the focus more and more to the natural environment and matters of sustainability, even amongst skyscrapers.

I think the green trend we see now will continue to develop in the next 20 years, hopefully to the point where natural ecosystems are brought back to the cities. There are already examples of this in New York, such as the re-naturalisation of the waterfront or the bee sanctuaries on roof-tops. These are projects that don’t immediately cater to people as final users, but to plants, birds or insects. My intention is to explore ways in which the smallest of these ‘users’ can take centre-stage in renders, having the Hudson Yards as a backdrop.

Hi everybody
I haven’t finished my first image yet but I started to work on my second one.
The project will consist in these three images:
– evening image of the future scenario (when water will cover the lower part of the buildings)
– morning image of the builfing site (nowadays)
– underwater image (I hope I can do this…)
Here a first quick render of the image, i would like to represent the site under de-construction. I liked the idea that a early constructed place will be partially reconverted in 20 years. So I would like to represent the construction of the footbridge in the upper part of the vessel.
there’s more work to do both in texturing and adding details.
what do you think about? Comments and suggestions are appreciated.

The challenge of Tomorrow entry by Roman Huzar

Hello, everybody! 😉

At this stage, I have worked with a selection of atmospheric references and the general impression. As well as details. Initially, I thought to sedate everything in the same style, so that the pictures match each other. But then I wanted to feel the project and play with different types of light and atmosphere. In this selection, I chose 3 main atmospheric references that I will be guided by:

– The night after the rain.
– Daytime or sunset
– Foggy morning

I also chose the main greening references and technical references.

The basis of my idea, as I said earlier:
– The abandonment of combustion engines.
– The greening of our planet
– Travel to space and populations of other planets
– Transport and tunnel system development
– Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies

I don’t believe in utopia, but I want to convey an atmosphere where people will feel comfortable and where nature fits with architecture.

In the next iteration, I will provide the drafts and the selected angles. It’ll be interesting.)

Inspired by Elon Musk and Jacques Fresco.

I have worked on the design of the tower/pavilion that will stand in the middle of the new square. I used a panel of different materials and colours to give it an handcrafted and childish look. Like a kid’s tree house in the back garden.

The structure is made of red painted steel. The floor is painted wood. The platform is accessible by slopes (instead of stairs) so it can be enjoyed by limited mobility persons as well. The walls are covered with pretty plastic upcycled tiles.

See you next week for a new update.
