I wanted to take a part of this competition and create a stunning image! But I had only 2 days to make it from the beginning to the end and therefore I’m not quite satisfied with the final result.
I spent almost 1,5 day on modelling the whole building and the surroundings and another 7-8 hours on making materials, lighting and postproduction.

I wanted to make a winter mood scene with slightly blueish ambient light and very smooth yellow tint from interior. It was my first “winter” project so I have to learn a lot of new things. I also wanted to try a different camera angle – instead of “Rule of Third”, “Golden Spiral” etc. I decided to put the building into the center and use 18mm Focal Length.

There is a lot of things that I would like to do in the other way, only if I had more time – there is a lot of repetition
in the snow, the “snow poles” around the whole area are the same, also the lighting of the scene is far from being perfect, the water material is very simple without any foam, and many others small and more obvious mistakes
and errors – but I’m done. I’ve done what I could and I want to submit this project as finished.

Cheers!

It is still quiet outside. It is also quiet in the museum. It is the moment in the morning before the museum will be opened. The museum guides will arrive very soon. At this point, only the main hall and the exhibition “Louvre statues” is illuminated.

The terrain in the foreground acts as a guide to lead the viewers’ attention to the museum. I used trees, ivy and stones with additional subtle details for that purpose.

Additionally, I worked with a focal element which is the Spartacus statue crowded by ivy which gets the viewers’ attention and guides him further to the museum. The statue also serves as an object to get a better feeling of the scale of the building.

The biggest challenge for me was a new render engine and a lot of new tools to create a nice-looking environment. This was the most time-consuming part.

It is worth mentioning that I deviated from my original concept. Originally, I placed a person in the foreground of the scene, but I decided to discard that idea. I put so much effort into the foreground that I didn’t want to screw it with a person covering it up.

Working on this project gave me the chance to experiment with a variety of interesting tools and most importantly a great opportunity to gain experience using these in a project like this.

I wanted to show the night- and daylife of the museum, so the night view is during the shooting process and the day view is in overcust morning when the crew is gone. Contractors are continuing renovation and some early birds are heading to work.
Can’t do anything with my love of space and cgi movies, hence astranauts are main characters.

For post production I had to do more than I initialy intended to, I like to render as much as I can the final image and just tweak some colors in the end but this was not the case, mostly because I didn´t have much free time.
First thing after opening the file was to control all the multipasses from the render. With this I can control some details seperatly and fast: reflections, light, shadows, etc… After that I corrected the overall colors of the image, removing some of the exagerated blue of the hdri. I also darkened the trees in the background and added some dirt to the wall of the lake. Finaly just made a vignette and placed some people inside the building and outside. One important detail was to increase the reflections of the sky in the water to create a better mood and impact in the final image.

Render of Tomorrow’s challenge, we work with a model created from scratch, taken from the plans of Tham & Videgård’s Art Museum in Sweden. It was created a photorealistic render.

This work process was carried out with the sole thought of enhancing the natural and artistic beauty of the museum, in order to achieve a unique design and to achieve that it is raised with greater magnitude in its style and unique design, for that reason it was worked in an environment Forest, giving that approach to a simple volume, this makes the viewer realize the volume in front of him, and the environment is part of an aid in focusing the building, this makes the forest becomes a secondary element.

He adapted the scene for a day in the afternoon, so that he could see the building at its most graceful and use, he created this image with an artistic thought, but without leaving the reality and realism that image wants to capture.
