See Entries & Join! About ConvertedThe 7th Architectural Visualization Challenge I’m running in partnership with Quixel as the marquee sponsor. The book CABINS by Philip Jodidio and the fantastic illustrations by Marie-Laure Cruschi served as the principal inspiration for this year’s challenge theme. That, and my love for prefab architecture design.

As to finding an inspiration, we dwelled on what it would be like for us to live in a cabin, or why would we do it in the first place? For us, a cabin is not a destination resort but a place you can call home. A place where you can feel at peace with your inner demons. The atmosphere needs to be ideal. Therefore, we chose Jenny Lake, Wyoming as the perfect rendez-vous with yourself. When it comes down to the architectural topic, we agreed on keeping it simple, back to basic; a triangular shaped cabin with a cozy interior. Regarding to softwares, Lumion 8 is our chosen one.
The idea is to create a modern fisherman’s cabin on a quiet lake. The cabin will be on a lake, surrounded with dense forest. Climate is temperate oceanic/temperate continental.
As described in my first entry, i was looking for an aegean island spot. My preference goes to a volcanic island like Santorini, i like the contrast between the dark land, white buildings, and the blue of the mediterranean sea and sky (see mood images). I’ve used “Terrain party.com” to generate my heightmap ( very easy ), and setting up a very basic scene in UE4 to find where i will integrate my Cabins.
I always wanted to gather two things i love: 3D and the place where I’m from: Auvergne.
It’s a place shaped by sleeping volcanoes in the middle of France. These volcanoes look so strong and quiet at the same time that putting a cabin on it makes it even more peaceful and inspiring.
The inspiration for this project comes from an existing design by Kolman and Boye architects. My goal is to create the scene with as much realism as possible without sacrificing real-time performance in VR.
