The 7th Architectural Visualization Challenge I’m running in partnership with Quixel as the marquee sponsor. The book CABINS by Philip Jodidio and the fantastic illustrations by Marie-Laure Cruschi served as the principal inspiration for this year’s challenge theme. That, and my love for prefab architecture design.

The cabin modelling/materials and the landscape geometry is nearly complete. The result of the first test on the fog and aerial perspective was also successful with the next step being to figure out creating some low clouds.

After finalising my landscape geometry, I will start to model the foreground and implement mega scans into the scene.

I have been looking at reference photos of caves and the Ko Phi Phi islands. I really like how the rock walls towering above the water create intimate spaces. I am also really interested in looking from an exterior space through an interior back out to an exterior.

02. For me to get the true inspiration needed is to live, breath and try cabin life.

In the spirit of this contest, I took my family and gear and went for a cabin trip in the woods of Sweden and ended up in a place called Lockhyttan. It was magical. The snow, the silence. I could take pictures for hours. Deep in the wood there was a tiny little cabin.

We started a fire, ate some food and had a cup of tea. This is Cabin life, in it’s simplest essence. I hope that my photo documentation give it justice.
