The 7th Architectural Visualization Challenge I’m running in partnership with Quixel as the marquee sponsor. The book CABINS by Philip Jodidio and the fantastic illustrations by Marie-Laure Cruschi served as the principal inspiration for this year’s challenge theme. That, and my love for prefab architecture design.

Blocking and Staging. In this stage i put together the basic terrain and the model to know the feel of the scene and choosing the right camera angles for the final render. This helps me populate the area which is required for the final shot hence saving time and work.

As part of the competition the most research for me went into selecting the perfect cabin for my design.I finalized on Wikkelhouse PreFab cabin by fiction factory as its design struck onto me the most appropriate for the mood and feel of the scene i want to create.

So i started off by getting the model from sketchup warehouse and modified and tweaked it in Maya so that i can work on it better. It just included bringing down the poly count without much loss to geometry and re-doing some parts of the model.

I gave it a quick render with rough materials on keyshot to know how it looks and its not broken.

“Shift” is basically a change in the environment, which is leading the Cabin to be transported off to a greener destination. This concept has been put together in half a day but I will need to invest more time into this. Intending to have motion blur on chopper blades and on few items falling off the cabin with dusts and debris from below. Vegetation and refining the whole scene is next venture.
