Here is what I have so far for the exterior image, as well as a quick breakdown of the steps I followed!
After coming up with a basic exterior lighting (created in vRay using an HDRI file), and choosing a camera angle, I started modeling some details on the building itself in 3ds Max. The 3D model provided was very simple, but with some high-quality references and a little bit of guesswork, I managed to create most of the missing ornaments and architectural characteristics fairly realistically.
I then focused on adding details to the surrounding environment, and creating basic props to fill the scene. As I was modelling everything, I was also creating and testing the different materials and finishes. Finally, I integrated various trees, shrubs, and other vegetation in the scene. (In order to save time, I didn’t create the trees myself. Most of the tree models come from VIZPARK shrubs/trees packs)
With a little bit of post-production work in photoshop, we now have a good idea of what the exterior image will look like! I still plan to fine-tune this render and add a final pass of details, characters and fine-tuning, but to make sure I meet the deadline for the challenge, I will focus on the interior views for now, and come back to this exterior render towards the end of the project.
Let me know your thoughts! 🙂
I tried to improve the model based on the library photos searched online, including the refinement of the library’s exterior walls and the refinement of the surrounding environment. The interior model provided is different from the details of the real library, so I reconstructed the photo based on the library (not yet completed). Because the trees around the library are so unique, they are all made with Growfx. Then add some snow to test.
Step – cameras and light.
I began to search and select the most appropriate angle for the exterior. As a result, stopped at a horizontal perspective. Next, I tested various HDRI maps, and chose a few suitable ones for my idea.
I will return to the light setup after I finish the modeling phase.
The exterior views model has been finished.
Most time I referred to Google street view to built the surrounding details, this is time-consuming but necessary.
I also bulit 4 trees using Speedtree.
2 trimmed willows were put in the foreground of the park view,so the trees won’t cover the background too much.
The other 2 trees are used in the front of the main building, just want to make them more similar to the realistic trees.
Hello everyone, For starting this project I knew that I needed a general idea and a concept that would guide me through the process of building these images. To get this idea, I started by exploring the model that was provided of the building and I also started to look at references of the surroundings/context. I noticed that this place fosters activities that are interesting.
After having clear the general idea and the frames that I will use, I have started to model some details so that I can begin to have the kind of images that I want.
Last year I used Fstorm Render in this case I pretend to use Corona Renderer all of this with the purpose of having fun with the light setup of the light mix feature.
