In the first image, the idea was to emphasize the colour of the building. My first thought was “a golden nugget” 🙂 Building has a specific orange colour, in some circumstances it can catch the golden-ish appearance. For example, during the day, after the rain. The sky is still dark, and the single light ray hits the building. Bright center of the image, focus on the library. Dark, shaded edges – vignette effect. Strong light from the left. Dark sky and strong shadows on the bottom of the image.

The Stockholm public library lighting work in process:

This project was started off with setting up the lighting and the application of a base material over the building model provided. My renderer of choice was Corona renderer which I perceived its Lightmix features would serve the purpose of setting up the early evening lighting and with its flexibility of use, would enable me to quickly explore possible variations that I sought.

The choice of an evening scene sets the right mood or atmosphere under which the Stockholm library would be ‘projected’ as an imposing edifice – being an undoubtedly a historical monument. As with the temperature, intensity and direction of the light – Corona Sun and Sky, the positioning of the building from the perspective it was viewed was also considered. The other views explored were all based on ‘the rule of thirds’ to attain a ‘point of interest’ so to speak.

The interior white top is large and distinctive. So it took a long time on this texture. Other textures are restored as much as possible by photo. Regarding the indoor lighting, it should have been determined long ago, but I don’t know if I need to add that sunshine. The original idea is to make the picture have a visual focus. At present, the effect is not obvious, and then consider it.
Texture added, and a little light. The time is very tight, I want to add the ice and snow elements as soon as possible, so there may not be too many workflow updates before submitting the final document.

Here there are some updates about the composition and lighting. To set the views I’ve taken some photos of the actual project as references. I’ve been improving the given model and adding some assets (also modeling some of them). For the exterior views I’m using HDRI lighting and for the interior one I’m using Corona Sun and Sky. The vegetation is made with both Corona Scatter and ForestPack.

On this stage I was searching for general mood, found some angle of view that looked interesting for me. It turned out to be a hill near the library. Also i choosed night time with moonlight coming from back, providing some interesting shadows from trees. High point of view The architectural illumination and light from windows interracting and plays with fog should be a memorable feature. А high point of view allowed us to review the library architecture despite the fog that was lower. The library seems to be sailing from this perspective. I decided that this might well fit the task of the competition: to present the building in an extraordinary way and perspective.

This time I updated the materials and lightings with V-ray.
Before I started this round,I collected some inspiration images similar to my original idea, they can help me to set lightings, show a basice mood.
About the materials, I still referred Google street view.I tried to make most textures are same as realistic scene.
I think I can render the final size now, still have many things to do in post-production.

In the meantime,I will start the model work of interior view, will upload it next time.
