The challenge of Tomorrow entry by Daryl Tebug

The main purpose of this image is to further expand on the story I am displaying. This shot will show how easy it will be for residents to have access to all parts of the city simply by making their way from their homes above the first floor and straight down to the west side terminal which is just below. Again I intend to fill this one with lots of green which can be seen from the platform. Another update coming soon!
Thanks

Manhattan County continues to important rank on lists of most polluted cities
“Millions of New Yorkers are at risk of unhealthy ozone levels, putting them at risk of premature death and other serious health effects such as asthma attacks, treating symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cardiovascular damage”
Results released by the local Health Department indicate that there are significant amounts of airborne pollutants in considerable amounts, especially on highways and in major traffic areas in Manhattan.

In addition current buildings suffer from Sick Building Syndrome
It is known as SBS in a set of symptoms and diseases caused or stimulating by air pollution in closed spaces.

These data make my vision of the future grim, however, today there is the constant development of new technologies that can be the hope of a better tomorrow
but getting there won’t be overnight.

My concept will present a scenario where the outdoor spaces will be little inhabited by people due to the unhealthy environment, on the other hand it will be traveled by drones that will help with the operation of the city
Autonomous robots working on the construction of sistems to improve the surrounding air as well as the infrastructure of more ecological and intelligent transport systems.

An anlysis of the variables involved in this project.
This is a key location not only for the housing and commercial development of NY and the region, but also a transportation and traffic key point.
Based on the analysis and the current conditions of traffic and public transportation, I determined that a connexion between NJ and NY will be created there. The two most important ones will be a bridge, and the other one a tunnel.
There will also be several platforms for people using 1 to 6 passengers flying vehicles.
Housing is an issue in NY so if there is a solution it will be to increase the housing area, and there is nowhere to go than up, so more tall skyscrapers will be built.

I’ve been working hard over the last several weeks blocking in the neighborhood, modeling the existing Hudson Yards buildings, and bringing in some additional assets like cars and plants. I’ve decided to put eight sets of high-rise buildings based on the site plan, and I’ve designed and modeled four so far! As these buildings have been put in the model I’ve been able to set up some preliminary views. I’ve also been able to begin brainstorming some story ideas. I want to illustrate Hudson Yards from three viewpoints for my main three images, so these images will be more narrative in nature. The first test view I’ve been playing with is called “The Visitor”. The Visitor will be an image shown as I believe a visitor to this neighborhood would see it. I want a street level view for this one, it will help to illustrate the scale of this neighborhood and make the buildings soar into the sky. It will also tie the neighborhood in with the surrounding environment. I’ve decided that I’d like to risk a non-traditional view point for this one, using three point perspective to firstly simulate a person photographing this view, and secondly to emphasize the scale of these buildings.

When I started this challenge I promised myself that I would have modeled all the objects in the scene (except for plants obtained with forest pack and people added in post) because I think that every 3d challenge is an opportunity to improve your skills.
Well, according to my concept the second image should be referred to a building site so I had some fun modeling some assets that I would insert in the scene.
I worked with 3ds for modeling and Corona layered materials (with vertex paint) for texturing.
Hope you like it.

Here is 3 moodboards for the 3 still images i’ll produce for the challenge, from Archviz agencies i love (mostly Beauty&thebit, Brickvisual and Luxigon). I’ll try to adapt the site architecture to match those moods and create nice compositions.

My major personal challenges will be to increase my modeling level of detail, scan myself some vegetation or items and integrate them to the scenes, and also find an interesting storytelling for each scene… One of the images may become an interior view, showing exterior too.
