I tried to design a simple cabin, which would provide shelter for tourists in beautiful place of Lofoten (Norway), where the mountains grow up from the sea and creates this nice piece of land.
During the design process, I chose the triangular shape because the cabin will be surrounded by mountains and the snow will easily slide from the pitched roof. The cabin is slashed on the front side, to provide nice view even in the night to enjoy Aurora through big window directly from the interior of shelter. The interior will be equiped for basic human needs, so there will be small bathroom, kitchen/dining room, and place to sleep for up to 6 people.
I started by drawing a sketches with pencil, also with solving the interior. Also, I gathered some photo references of the location, so now it’s time to make a terrain by finding depth map of the place and putting it into Lumion.

Just a first quick setup of the scene. Landscape modeling and texturing was made in MODO with Vray plugin. For the mountains in the distance I used an aerial picture of a bay near Chile from USGS, as suggested by Ronen, and turned it into a displacement map to create the basic geometry. Obviously some plants, rocks and more realistic textures from Quixel megascans still need to be added! I post here a picture I found on the web that I used as starting point and inspiration. Funny enough, what I had in mind was Patagonia by I ended up with a picture of a lake not too far from where I live!

… but at the same time I understand the spirit of the contest.
It this entry I wanted to show you the main composition I have in mind for my main shot. The architecture of the shelter should blend into the slope of the mountain and be a part of it, not disturbing the natural context.
I am planning to use Corona Render to achieve most realism in the scene, and combine it with Megascans which are graciously given access to us in this contest. It is the first time for me to use them, and from the beginning I must admit, that it won’t be easy on Australian internet and its speed ;).
Good luck everybody and have fun!

I do not just want to create only a photorealistic image with my work.

I know that the state of the art and the current software and hardware services make this possible. The technic is actually so good that we could not see the difference between reality or animation. We see it nearly every day in a blockbuster in a cinema movie or something else like that. I would like to create one moment.

Like an artist from the time when there were only had oil paints, a brush, and a canvas. Can you imagine that the artists used to have no photos as a reference for their great works? I mean artist like Pablo Picasso or Michelangelo who creates works with moving horses who pulls a carriage.

They were animated works but still in one frame. Their works tell a story in one picture. Like the moment when you pushed the pause button on your movie player. If you see their works you see that one story is telling. But you don´t know how it was starting and you didn´t know how it will ends. But I think that´s one the best moments about of a work like that. Your phantasy has no limits.

In my work, I would like to freeze one moment of a moving film. I choose the Canadian nature as the environment. A massive railway train with over 20 wagons makes his way through a beautiful Nordic nature. You can hear the train. You can see the train and of course, you can feel the train but you know it’s you just for a couple of seconds and not like the subway in a city who cames every 5 minutes.

There are different types of ideas about cabins. One person thinks that a cabin is outside of traffic. The other one thinks it must be nearby a lake or something like that. I would like so show one cabin by my own design that stands near the railway but even cares about the massive train because the beautiful Nordic nature covered that cabin.

Nature gives them a beautiful view but also covers them from traffic. The other point of my work will be the ecological use of nature. An ecological cabin with solar panels and rainwater filter system.

This are the references I will use, it will be a beach hotel, I took the inspiration from Yelapa Beach in Jalisco, you can only get there by boat and you can experience amazing views of the sea and the river.
