I was having problems trying to think of how to model the environment. I finally came up with the idea of using sandbox plugin in Sketchup as a base. I then created a hexagon that I copied an instance of. I picked the hexagons randomly using randomSelect, grouped them, and dropped them on the sandbox model, this I repeated a number of times, each time I tweeked the sandbox model to get a random height for the hexagons upon the sandbox model.
Now that I have this model I will start designing the cabin… hopefully.

Not sure with sketch up.. but if your using 3ds Max, I would highly recommend using the freeform tools on a editable poly to push and pull vertices around… so so quick and fun! 🙂 or using the displace modifier and a height map.

Brilliant idea for creating the environment.
Are you going to use this geometry for the terrain or will you be adding some of the smoother, rolling hill terrain to simulate looser earth that has settled around the more geometric shapes.
    Looking forward to more.

    GREAT Reference!
is dynamic and give to the shot a natural frame!
My only concern it will be that it will be show just one type of material/product.
One of the goal of the competition is too show Megascan products and in this case you are not going to show a lot of them.

I LOVE the giants causeway – went there a few years back…. very windy, but an incredible sight i must say… saw some similar basalt columns in Iceland, though they weren’t as ‘perfect’ as the giants causeway… still very beautiful!

Love the idea mate – will be interesting to see how you integrate a cabin – Also, I love the method you used to create the causeway!
