CABINS entry by jeddbrendo

Started the general massing of the concept.
Kept it basic. Took some screenshots and printed them out to scribble over. Some of the ideas might work, others probably not.

Did some experimenting with Railclone for some slats that wrap up around the base of the Cabins. Did not go so well and decided to leave it for now and maybe ask on the iToo forum for help.

Will continue to work up the architectural design, while considering final camera positions.

On mountain bike trails there are usually boardwalk sections. These are a lot of fun to ride on, and essential for the Mountain bike trails I am placing in my scene.

This is a perfect opportunity to use RailClone from iToo Software. It is an amazing plugin, very powerful. Even though I find it difficult to understand & manage this kind of modeling, I really wanted to push myself and try to get some basic parametric models going!

Played with the 2 different array generators. The Railclone style in the screenshot is made up of multiple generators.
The circular berm is 2d array.
The raised boards & supports are 1d arrays. The raised boards follow a spline but the deform in the Z axis with a low-poly surface that is non-renderable. That way I can easily give them twists etc.

At the moment I have 2 splines doing the work but and it gets pretty rough beneath the planks, with the support beams not touching them or intersecting badly. I hope to tidy that a bit and maybe have it all run by the 1 spline.
The planks themselves are just one box that is randomly being transformed & in scale & rotation. The uneven spaces between each plank are achieved by having a dummy segment that is randomly scaled and placed along the spline.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks.

Adventure in the outdoors is awesome. One of the best sports is mountain biking. In my entry I wanted to design remote mountain biking cabins. They would be put along multi-day trails.

This is inspired by a multi-day hike I did years ago in New Zealand & my love of mountain biking. That trek in NZ has always occupied a very special place in my heart. The idea of combining the fun & adventure of mountain biking with the splendor of a monumental & remote landscape is exciting.

I have started by collecting reference(Google Images & Pixabay) material and ideas. Photos of the trek in NZ as well as photos of timber work used in MTB trail building. This kind of design will be reflected in the architectural elements.
Recently I discovered a free application that quickly and easily collates all this onto one moodboard. The app is called PureRef. Well worth checking out.

I also started thinking and sketching REALLY rough plan views. As part of my process I find listening to certain music will help get the creative juices going. For this concept I have been listening to the soundtracks of BCC Blue Planet 2 & Planet Earth 2.
