2013 is behind us now. I planned to post this one sooner but I was enjoying welcoming a new baby into my family (still am, but we have to keep rolling). So, before we get started with 2014, here are 12 of my favorite articles posted on the blog during 2013. I wish you all the best this new year be good, do good!
This backstage video, showing PhotoWork at work, is a great find by Juraj Talcik and a must watch for anyone interested in interior visualization, so I plug this one here too. It shows how much really goes into making a photo in terms of building the stage, styling, lighting, compositing, etc. I’m not so sure about Juraj’s comment on his FB page that pure digital is still off in terms of quality compared to this. It is just one example, and the result here looks a bit CG to me after all the post-work done on it. I’m not at all sure about things ever being PURE digital… the IKEA case study clearly shows an advantage of mixing CG + Real Elements for that final ultimate Photo Real look.
Thiago Lima will feature a full-fledged making-of article here soon, but until then I invite you to take a look at this fast paced video recording of the making process of his recent Hostel MondoCúbico project. A lot is going on in the 8+ minutes of the video, but the music is great and so is the view. It is really inspiring seeing it this way. Enjoy!
Bertrand Benoit shared his latest larger personal project on the forums yesterday – La Maison de Verre. Completed in the early 30’s by architect and designer Pierre Chareau, Bertrand took it on himself to recreate it in 3d as real as possible… resembling the original. The attention to details is what you would expect by now from Mr. B, and yet it still amazes me time and time again. Thank you very much for bringing this house to my attention (and thanks to Peter Guthrie too for initially suggesting it).
If there is a project by Zaha Hadid Architects I really like, It is this – Galaxy Soho in Beijing. And from all the photos taken of it, the ones by HUFTON + CROW are my favorite for showing the building teeming with people, in context and in contrast to it! I love the foggy mood they captured… so indicative of Beijing. Many criticize Zaha Hadid for repeating herself, but in this case I just love the form and flow which play well with a “spaceship just landed” like building. The photos taken from within the small city streets are the best.
Zinc covered house, situated in a great looking site in Cincinnati, Ohio. I find this house by Jose Garcia Design very inspiring… specifically the materials used and spacious feel to it. Stunning exterior photos in this set by Ryan Kurtz, blending the zinc house into the colorful foliage that surrounds it. We also get a great glimpse of the insides in the video they made as it came into the market.
