Octane Corners by Bertrand Benoit

It is safe to say that no matter what render engine Bertrand Benoit picks up, the outcome will be among the best that was ever made! with that render engine. We’ve seen that all too well a month ago when he posted his “Corners” scene rendered with the real-time GPU engine – Octane, which won 2nd place in their 2012 Apocalypse Competition (I personally think he had a first place grade entry though). I would keep tabs on the advances the Octane people are making… it’s getting very interesting in the real-time zone.

The Magical Touch / TreeSketch 2.0

Apple’s iPad launch was one of those moments you knew things were about to change… profoundly. Not everyone had the same sentiment back then, but look where we are now. With TreeSketch 2.0, by Steven Longay from Algorithmic Botany I see this change entering our field, and I hope to see more of these touch implementations for 3d content creation & exploration. Just imagine – Creating a tree in the palm of your hands!

XFrogPlants Asia Released

XFrog Inc. the makers of XFrogPlants, and CityLIFE sponsor, added a new collection of 180 models from Asia. The new library includes 20 species, each with nine 3D models of the plant in different ages and sizes for a total of 180 highly detailed, fully textured new models. This set of nine botanically correct ages and variations are modeled by hand, not randomly produced, to give maximum variety for instancing the models across a virtual terrain.
