January 7, 2020 / in 3dsmax, FStormRender, Photoshop / by jnichol4This was originally meant to be an entry for the texture.supply render contest, and then Pantone announced this year’s color of the year, and I knew I wanted to also have it become a celebration of that, since it is one of my favorite colors. I used 3ds max, Fstorm, and Photoshop just for some minor color balancing.
The full project is also on my behance: https://www.behance.net/gallery/90324069/White-Classic-Blue

This was a personal project where I wanted to recreate the look & feel of those Danish furniture brands that everyone knows (Fritz Hansen, Menu, Muuto, etc).
Modeled in 3ds Max, Rendered in Fstorm. Post was very minimal (just some slight color temp adjustments, highpass, and a very small amount of CA).
Lighting plays a large part in creating the look I was going for, so it’s lit with an HDRI from CG-source, and then just a couple bounce cards to help the shadows not be pure black in some spots.

January 7, 2020 / in 3dsmax, FStormRender, Photoshop / by jnichol4My website needed a new homepage image that truly shows my style of choice, which is mid century modern–especially Danish mid century. I often consider myself an interior stylist just as much as I consider myself a visualization artist. The goal was to create a beautiful, clean, white interior with Walnut/Teak furnishings that really pop.
I used Fstorm’s Sun & Sky for the lighting, along with portals in the windows. Tonemapping was all done within Fstorm, including a custom LUT I have made for myself.

January 7, 2020 / in 3dsmax, FStormRender, Photoshop / by jnichol4A daily styling exercise. I wanted to highlight a wood texture created by a friend, so I used it as an accent wall. The props are from various places around the web, the buffet was modeled by me, and the art in the frame was created by me as well. Created with 3ds Max & Fstorm, and then used Photoshop for just some slight noise reduction. You can find the wood texture here:

January 7, 2020 / in 3dsmax, FStormRender, Photoshop / by jnichol4This is a personal project I created to after seeing an image on Pinterest that I really liked. The desk and shelf were modeled by me, and they are from West Elm. I wanted to create a nice moody image with nice details for some closeup shots.
The scene was rendered in Fstorm, which is far and away my render engine of choice now. It’s lit with a single HDRI from CG-source. I used CameraRaw in PSD for some slight noise reduction and to remove some green tones from the wall, all other tonemapping is done through Fstorm.
Hope you enjoy!

January 7, 2020 / in 3dsmax, FStormRender, Photoshop / by jnichol4I normally work with more modern/contemporary designs, but have always had an appreciation for classical and Parisian design, so for this project I wanted to go out of my comfort zone a little. I only did 3 renders for this at the time, but have fully built out the set so it will be ready for any potential reuse.
I used Fstorm for all tonemapping, and just used PSDs Camera raw for a little noise reduction.
