My latest work created for the Kitbash Cyberpunk competition.
Read more →After the Flood: Miami
This piece was inspired by the thought of future cities being flooded due to Climate Change. In this instance, Miami. How will the cities and people adapt? Will they abandon their homes or will they redesign and re-inhabit?

October 17, 2019 / in 3dsmax, Corona Renderer, Forest Pack, V-Ray / by Jake WilliamsMy recent submission Capri Getaway for the Evermotion competition was a unique challenge to say the least. I was inspired by a recent trip to the Amalfi coast and wanted to push Corona Render to make a sea water shader to replicate the clear blue water of the region. Due to some limitations of Corona I also used a secondary Vray scene to help with some parts of the image. This included the setup of Phoenix FD for displacement on the water which was then transferred back to the Corona scene for the final render. I had never attempted an approach like this before but I’m glad it came together in the end because there were a few moments of doubt when I wasn’t sure how I would bypass some issues. Moving forward I’m excited to seeing how Chaosgroup can bring these two render engines together for easier collaboration in the future.

October 17, 2019 / in 3dsmax, Corona Renderer, Forest Pack, Photoshop / by Jake WilliamsThe Valley of Clouds began as an exploration of Corona’s volume material and trying to achieve the feeling of flying above a foggy city. I wanted to push the boundaries of the volume shader to see if I could get a result that I hadn’t seen before. I started by building city blocks of night buildings from evermotion and then painstakingly adjusting the parameters of the fog material and surface modifiers to get a good result. Once I had the cloud material in place the rest of the scene evolved into a dreamy mountain landscape to further push the narrative of stumbling a hidden futuristic city hidden in the valley.
