Researching for inspirations, i stumbled upon the Archipelago of Stockholm in sweden und was beautifully stunned. I could already play the scenes in my head, running ideas and several compositions.
The location should be a sacred haven where sculptural rocks, oaks and pines dominate the landscape.
Using the inspirational examples uploaded, my concept is to take full advantage of the scenic ocean view whilst creating a place for leisure with a feeling of comfort and relaxation. The main cabin would most probably sit slightly back and elavated from the waterfront, half hidden behind the knotty pine trees. Facing the ocean would be a large area for socializing. The smaller moduls would sit along the waterfront.

Ronen, i’m in kind of a dilenma, so far i’ve modeled with sketchup(vray 3.4 render engine with the default settings) and sparringly with autodesk maya(arnold render engine with the default settings). I can’t seem to decide on which programm to use/learn and render engine to improve on. So far Sketchup has its advantages with the 3d warehouse included while i can’t seem to find any help using Maya and arnold for architectural modeling and rendering. I can’t use 3ds max yet and i’m concidering learning and using it for the challenge.
Do you have any advice for me? Or experience tackling such a hurdle?
My workflow usually starts in Sketchup – Form finding and how it relates with the Site/Environment.
Then in a CAD programm – Floorplans drawn in 3D
Which i then mostly import back into Sketchup as a dwg/dxf file – Add furniture/Details from the warehouse and render with vray. At this point sketchup becomes super slow and crashes often. This is obviously a pain and thats why im considering using another software.
What are your takes?
The challenge is great time to take a new app for a spin and try to learn it as you go. That said, and I am very biased on this topic, SketchUp can do a lot and with recent updates to it and to V-Ray for SketchUp – you can do much more! Maybe the challenge is to figure out how you can indeed use SketchUp and output a great result?

Right now i’m modeling my terrain and im having difficulties getting the megascans assets in sketchup. I can’t seem to find any tutorial anywhere for Sketchup.
I downloaded an fbx import plugin to be able to download a 3d asset, it seems i have to do a uvw mapping in other to apply the texture on. i tried applying the various textures but it came all wrong.
Any advice on the issue? Or i’m i going all about it wrong?

Wow! What a great place to design in.
With so many islands available, this challenge could’ve been set entirely in this archipelago, with each designer crafting their own unique cabin within view of any other cabin.
