SketchUP 2014 Released

My favorite 3d modeling software has been upgraded! SketchUP 2014 hit the market today, and although the core SketchUP Pro features did not change that much, I like the fact Trimble keeps a steady update cycle with a great beta testing program. I just wish they focused on SketchUP just as much as Layout. 2013 was mainly a Layout upgrade, with 2014 they overhauled the 3d warehouse and more Layout upgrades… Trimble – Make 2015 a SketchUP Pro core upgrade only please! it is long overdue. I guess that bottom-line, the most valuable update in this release is the introduction of Ruby 2.0 for 3rd party developers.

RailClone2.2 by iToo Software Released

iToo Software has released version 2.2 of RailClone, their popular parametric modelling tool for 3dsmax. This version opens the software to a new wide range of applications, thanks to an extended style library including new groups like wooden fences, flooring, shelving and animatable escalators. RailClone 2.2. also features all new operators, improved UVW mapping, count mode for generators (which I’m already putting to good use on a tower facade project), V-Ray 3 and Thea Render compatibility plus many other changes and fixes.

Pixelpark‘s ‘Los Faiques Dwelling’ visuals, inspired by the real ‘Los Faiques Dwelling’ designed by DURAN & HERMISA arquitectos asociados, awarded them Best Visualization of the Week NO. 04/2014 for a remarkable CG remake and level of details they went into during the process. Great care and time was taken in the modeling of the foliage that surrounds the structures as well as the materials… specifically, the imperfections you find over time. Follow this article as they describe the process of creating these highly photorealistic visuals using 3dsmax, GrowFX, V-Ray and just a bit of postwork. I’ve learned about the Los Faiques Dwellings in Yunguilla valley, Ecuador, following pixelpark’s remarkable CG remake of this eye catching design by Duran & Hermida arquitectos asociados. Named after the trees occupying the site, the pavilion like structures blend in and open themselves towards the surroundings. There are amazing dusk shots in this photo set taken by photographer Sebastián Crespo.
